Day 1 – Guayaquil – Cacao Farm – Cuenca

Leaving Guayaquil in the morning to drive south to Cuenca. En route we visit a cacao hacienda to learn about the process of cacao production and its transformation to chocolate. The Cacao & Mango Farm is a family owned hacienda in the countryside, surrounded by Churute Ecological Reserve. The farm has rice and cacao plantations, a cacao green house and grows many fruits and vegetables including mango, papaya, dragon fruit, avocado, as well as tomato, green pepper and lemon grass. The family source the ingredients for a delicious homemade, organic lunch. Later, we will continue our ride to Cuenca and check in at the hotel upon arrival.

Day 2 – Cuenca, Gualaceo & Chordeleg

Morning city tour of Cuenca, Ecuador´s third largest city and the heart of the country’s artistic culture. You will enjoy a walking tour of the historical centre with buildings from the 16th century on traditional cobblestone streets. Visit the beautiful churches and museums and watch the local people in traditional dress walk by in Parque Calderón. After immersing ourselves in the local culture we will enjoy lunch at a local restaurant.

In the afternoon visit the Andean towns of Gualaceo & Chordeleg. These towns are famous for their traditional handicrafts of woven baskets, fine gold, silver filigreed jewellery, woodwork, pottery and ikat textiles. An opportunity to shop till you drop!

Day 3 – Ingapirca

A full day excursion to explore the Ingapirca ruins, which represent the most important Inca complex in Ecuador. Built at the beginning of the 16th century, the centre piece is the Temple of the Sun, a large structure originally used for ceremonies and solar observations by the Inca and Cañari civilizations. Return to Cuenca, enjoy dinner and spend the evening at your own leisure.

Day 4 – Cuenca – El Cajas National Park – Guayaquil

Enjoy breakfast at the hotel and check out. On the drive back to Guayaquil we will visit the stunning Cajas National Park, with its golden-green moor like, Andean grasslands dotted with lakes. Take a walk and enjoy the fresh country air and unusual flora and fauna.
