Churute Mangrove Ecological Reserve

With over 38,000 hectares of mangroves and over 12,000 hectares of tropical forest, the Churute Mangrove Ecological Reserve is one of the largest mangrove reserves in the country. Located just 58km (36 miles) from downtown Guayaquil, it’s easy to add a visit to this bird watcher’s paradise to your city tour. Within this reserve, there are over 300 species of birds, 27 of which are endemic to Ecuador and 11 are endangered species.

The day will include a boat ride down the saltwater canals of the Guayas Estuary. Learn about the different species of mangroves and interesting flora and fauna you discover on the way. The adventure continues with a walk through the dry tropical forests in search of rare birds and Howler monkeys.
