“History and Traditions”

Visit the historical centre of Quito, built in 1534 and considered a city of Outstanding Universal Value by UNESCO.

We will visit the Basilica del Voto Nacional, the unique gothic style church in the old town and if you feel adventurous you can climb to the bell and clock towers to have the best view of Quito.

We will continue to Plaza Grande to see important historical buildings such as the presidential palace. Walk through the seven crosses street to admire the picturesque Spanish architecture and learn about Ecuadorian history. Visit the La Compañia de Jesus church considered to be the most important structure of colonial Quito owing to its baroque style.

On the way to the archeological museum Casa del Alabado where we will learn more about the old civilizations of Ecuador, we will walk through the oldest square in Quito, San Francisco.

Before we depart from the old town we will walk through the charming area of La Ronda and visit traditional work places to see how artists are inspired by the colonial city and sample the best local food.

Visit El Panecillo hill and climb to the highest Virgin Mary in the world, the “Madonna of Quito”. Followed by lunch in a local restaurant.

After lunch we will take a 40 minute drive from Quito to visit the Middle of the World. You can get a picture of yourself standing on both hemispheres at the same time! Later we will have an interesting and fun time at Intiñan museum to learn more about the equator.
